San Francisco, USA: Artemis Optical and Optomel are pleased to announce a joint business development and technology partnership to bring cost enabling laser filter solutions to the mass market previously only available to the defence and aerospace industries.
The aim of the partnership is to bring new solutions to the photonics industry crying out for a cost- effective answer to the rapidly growing display systems marketplace. Not only does the technology offer interesting pricing opportunities it also offers new solutions to existing challenges in the LED, Augmented Reality and Head Up Display markets, particularly to medical, automotive and aerospace businesses.
Artemis Optical has an established reputation in providing LED display solutions in recent years, such as the innovative BAE Systems LiteHUD, developed with BAE Systems Rochester UK. Artemis is also a world leader in the design and manufacture of other precision optical coatings, including laser protection, in the aerospace, defence, medical and industrial markets.
Optomel is a photonics start up, founded by Dr Damian Gardiner who has previously successfully spun- out a business from Cambridge University. Optomel has developed a breakthrough technology giving customers precise, customisable filters but crucially at a price and scale which empowers new applications and markets in photonics
Nick Hurst CEO of Artemis said ‘we are delighted to have teamed up with Optomel, who have come up with an innovative solution to a problem that has been challenging the market for optical filters and displays for some time now’. He went on to say that the two businesses are talking with a select number of companies who they believe will be very interested in this technology, he said ‘feedback so far has been very positive’.
Optomel are one of the semi-finalists in the Startup Challenge competition run by SPIE Photonics West. Dr Gardiner said that he was thrilled to be in San Francisco and optimistic about the opportunities his new development offered. ‘It is clear to me that with this technology breakthrough and with Artemis’ world leading experience we will be able to offer a truly game changing solution to the market’.
